Each December, Kirkus Reviews magazine releases its list of the best books of the year. Those works are drawn from across the literary spectrum: fiction, non-fiction, indie, children’s and YA.
Kirkus Reviews is one of the oldest and most respected of the national book review magazines and one of the most selective. Their reviewers are often called “the world’s toughest book critics.”
Receiving a starred review—a designation of exceptional merit—is rare and more so for a first-time author. So, I was thrilled when they gave me the coveted Kirkus Star and said of my book, “truly wonderful and moving tales; the author is a writer to watch.”
I thought it couldn’t get better than that. Now Kirkus has chosen Driftwood to be among some of the top works in literature as one of the Best Books of 2020. It’s hard not to be overwhelmed at such news.
Now allow me to gush for a moment about all of you:
I have been constantly touched by the generosity of spirit shown to me since my book was released, and even before. The kind emails, messages, and phone calls and the wonderfully thoughtful reviews fill me with gratitude every single day.
To all of you who are sharing this journey with me: thank you so much. May you follow your dreams on your own Margarita Road.
